About Us

The Gateway Centre opened on 23rd March 1980 as an extensive conversion of the former Ashbourne Methodist day school. It is part of a unique and extraordinary historic Victorian Grade II listed building, and is located on the bottom floor. The Centre is managed by Ashbourne Methodist church. It provides comfortable low cost accommodation.

The Centre is designed to appeal to youth groups or as a base to explore the Peak District, a gateway to adventure. As well as the Centre’s spacious dining and recreational area there is also potential to hire one of the church halls for indoor activities or residential training events.

We welcome pre-visit inspections from schools and other organisations.

Some exciting news – as part of the Ashbourne Reborn transformation programme the Centre is getting a makeover. The existing hostel will be fully refurbished to provide more modern and flexible accommodation. The existing cottage will be retained and converted to provide two new apartments as part of the hostel offer. The building will have additional heat insulation installed too. Outside there will be a landscaped garden bordered by the Henmore Brook. As a consequence the Centre will close in 2024 and reopen in the second half of 2025.
